Drawing a connection between a traditional Maori myth, the storyteller and the landscape, this book took a year to produce. I travelled the length and breadth of New Zealand to make connections with ten male and female tribal elders (kaumatua and kuia) from most of the country’s major tribal groups. I listened to the stories and recorded them for transcription, and photographed each person as they shared their legend. I then travelled to the specific piece of land with which the story dealt and photographed it on an old-fashioned large format bellows camera, a slow and deliberate process.
The book has sold out. I’m currently considering the best way of re-publishing the material. Any suggestions? Please go to the blog page and let me know!
